Volkshotel Amsterdam

Je profite de quelques semaines de vacances reposantes en Suède en ce moment, histoire de recharger les batteries pour la rentrée... Parmi les projets sympas qui m'attendent, un blog tour à Amsterdam début octobre! Notre groupe de bloggers européens va notamment participer à l'événement Meet the blogger le 4 octobre. I'm enjoying a few weeks of relaxing holidays in Sweden at the moment, trying to to recharge my batteries for this autumn... One of the fun projects waiting for me is a blog tour to Amsterdam early October! Our group of European bloggers will, among other things, participate in the Meet the blogger event on Oct 4th. We will even hold a few workshops there, so if you want to come and hang out with us, book your ticket here. 

J'hâte de découvrir cet hôtel dans laquelle nous allons rester: Volkshotel. Ouvert il y a quelques semaines seulement, c'est un hôtel pour tous, ouvert aux "mères célibataires, traders, punk rockers et poètes..."

I'm really excited about seeing more of this hotel where we will be staying: Volkshotel. Opened only a few weeks ago, it's a hotel open to everyone: "single moms, stockbrokers, punk rockers and poets..."

Pendant 45 ans, ce bâtiment appartenait au journal progressiste hollandais De Volkskrant, avant de devenir un espace de travail pour des centaines de créateurs. Le bâtiment entre maintenant dans une nouvelle époque en tant qu'hôtel, où des découpages de journaux se mélangent aux détails d'origine en acier, bois, béton et verre.

During 45 years, this building belonged to one the of the most progressive Dutch newspapers, De Volkskrant, before becoming a huge work space for hundreds of creative minds. The building now enters a new era as hotel, where newspaper cut outs mix with original elements in steel, wood, concrete and glass.

Comprenant un hôtel, café, bar, restaurant, club et espaces de travail créatifs, l'ancien bâtiment à journaux est ouvert à tous.

Including a hotel, café, bar, restaurant, club and creative work spaces, the former newspaper building is open to everyone.

On peut aussi boire un verre sur le toit terrasse en profitant du sauna et l'une des trois baignoires en bois.

You can also have a few drinks on the rooftop terrace while trying out the sauna and one of the three hot bath tubs.

Institut Suédois

Si vous êtes à Paris, il y a une jolie expo "Slow Art" en cours à l'Institut Suédois en ce moment (jusqu'au 13 juillet). A travers quelques superbes pièces uniques provenant des collections de Nationalmusem à Stockholm, on célèbre un processus créatif lent et méticuleux où priment la technique et les matériaux. C'est beau et impressionnant!
Ouvert mar-dim jusqu'au 13 juillet, 12h-18h, entrée libre. L'institut Suédois se trouve au coeur du Marais, au 11 rue Payenne.

If you're in Paris, there is a beautiful "Slow Art" exhibition going on at the Swedish Institute right now (until July 13th). With a few stunning and unique pièces coming from Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, the exhibition celebrates a slow and meticulous creative process where technique and materials are in focus. Beautiful and impressive! 
Open Tue-Sun until July 13th, 12pm-6pm, free entry. The Swedish Institute is located in the heart of Marais, at 11 rue Payenne.

Quand je visite l'institut Suédois, je prends toujours le temps de m'arrêter au Café Suédois pour un "fika". "Fika" = moment sacré pour tous les suédois qui signifie faire une pause café avec des gâteaux.

When I visit the Swedish Institute, I always take the time to stop at the Swedish Café for a "fika" "Fika" = sacred moment for all Swedes meaning taking a coffee break with cakes/cookies.

Et par beau temps, je prends mon "fika" dans la jolie cour paisible :)

And when the weather is nice I enjoy my "fika" in the peaceful courtyard :)

My BIRD

Voici quelques photos que j'ai prises chez moi le weekend dernier pour une émission télé qui sera diffusée à la rentrée (oui, promis je vous préviendrai!). On m'a demandé, entre autres, de présenter un objet préféré... j'ai choisi l'oiseau BIRD, créé par le designer industriel danois Kristian Vedel en 1959.

Here are some photos that I took at home last weekend for a French TV show that will air this autumn. They asked me, among other things, to present a favourite object... I chose BIRD, created by Danish industrial designer Kristian Vedel in 1959.

J'adore son design intemporel et ludique: inclinez sa tête pour lui donner des expressions différentes - joyeux, triste, curiuex... - et tournez son corps pour lui donner une apparence plus féminine ou masculine.

I love its timeless and playful design: tilt the head to give the bird different expressions - happy, sad, curious... - and turn the body upside down to give it a more feminin or masculin appearence.

Aujourd'hui devenu une icone du design danois des années 50/60, la famille d'oiseaux est toujours fabriquée à la main par un tourneur sur bois au Danemark. Mon Bird à moi me suit depuis longtemps, mais vous le trouverez aussi dans mon shop.

The Bird family has become an icon for Danish design from the 50's/60's, and is still handmade by a wood turner in Denmark. My own Bird follows me since a long time, but you can also find it in my shop.
